October Update

We’re Open!!

By the time  you read this the new Community Shop and Post Office will have started trading – albeit from the “old” shop by kind permission of Gill and Bernard until Post Office Ltd. have completed their lengthy Public Consultation on the change of location to the Village Hall car-park. We are told that Post Office Ltd. do not do much in November/December as it is their busiest period of the year so it looks as if it will be the New Year before we are able to move to our new premises.

The enforced delay does have some positive benefits in that it enables us to assess the likes and dislikes of our customers and to continue our negotiations with potential suppliers. We have already added several new local ranges such as Just Rachel icecream and Emily’s homemade preserves, and we would be most pleased to learn your reaction. We have a Comments Book in the Shop for you to give your opinion. We are a Community Enterprise shop which belongs to you so we want to make sure that it suits your needs.

In order to give a good service and acceptable hours of opening we rely heavily on our volunteer staff so if you would like to join us please mention it in the shop. There may be some of you who have been undecided or who were not able to come to our previous volunteer meetings. If so, we would love to hear from you – telephone Julia Hoskins for details on 01432 820242. If you already use the shop or wish to pay us a visit please be patient with us – we are all, except our Manager Susan, unpaid volunteers with little or no experience of retail trading from “the other side of the counter”. We will possibly be slower than you are used to and may even make a mistake but we hope to learn from this and will strive to improve.

Customers may like to know that we have had to revise the current hours of opening to accommodate volunteer availability. They are now as follows: Shop. Monday to Friday – 8am to 5.30pm. Saturday 8.30am to 12.30pm. Sunday 8.30am to 12.30pm. Post Office– Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri. 9am to 5.30pm. Wednesday and Saturday  9am to 12.30pm

With Christmas on the horizon we aim to make the Community Shop the place to come so look out for future announcements of festive goodies, both culinary and practical to suit all tastes and pockets.  Thank you for supporting us and please let your relatives, friends and neighbours know who we are, where we are, and what we have to offer.
