September Update

The Burley Gate Community Shop Management Committee is pleased to announce that Martin Hoskins has been appointed Sub Post Master for the new Post Office following formal interview by the Post Office Ltd.

Now that Martin has been confirmed as the new Sub Post Master the Post Office Ltd  has informed us that a Consultation exercise must take place in order to move the site of the P.O. to the Portacabin at the Village Hall. This Consultation will take about 8 weeks and work can’t start on the Post Office installation until this is complete. This means that we can’t open in the new shop for about 12 weeks.

As a result over the next couple of weeks notices and letters will be distributed in the local community by the Post Office Ltd to gauge opinion. Therefore we would be extremely grateful if you could write to the Post Office Ltd to support the move to the new location when you see these notifications.

Bernard and Gill have long term plans to retire and because of the delay caused by Post Office Ltd’s requirements they have generously offered us the use of the existing shop on a short term basis during the Consultation period.

We are very grateful to them as this will allow us to open without a break in Post office services and therefore preserve the Post Office contract. We plan to take over on the weekend of October 10th so please support us when we start!

In the meantime, please continue to use the P.O. and shop – Gill & Bernard have been very accommodating given the numerous delays we have experienced for which we continue to thank them.

Work continues on making the new portacabin to prepare for our opening there.  The Post Office Ltd have advised us on their requirements and we are in the process of installing the plumbing in the next couple of weeks. The new parking bays on the Village Hall car park are also planned to be marked out in the very near future.

We will make more announcements so please keep watching our website, and also soon on social media (Facebook). We are also likely to hold social events in the new premises later to showcase our plans for the layout and potential suppliers.

Thank you all again for your continued support.
