August Update

Some of you may have seen the recent photograph in the Hereford Times of the portable building which is to house the Burley Gate Community Shop and Post Office being craned onto its site adjacent to the Burley Gate Village Hall and wondered – what happens next?

Well- work has started on the frontage alterations in the car-park area and mains electricity has been connected. Unfortunately Post Office Ltd. are being incredibly slow in transferring the service from the current shop which regrettably will delay our anticipated opening date. The Management Committee has, however been kept busy with preparatory work which should make the transition much easier when it takes place.

Share and Loan Certificates have been prepared and are being distributed, with many thanks to all who have supported the setting up of this innovative community enterprise. It is still not too late to apply for shares at £20 each which entitle the holder to a say in the running of the shop at the AGM. See below for contact details.

A Shop and Post Office Manager (Susan Carss) has been appointed and is currently working on a staffing rota to cover the proposed opening hours and also on alternative layouts of the shop. We have held meetings with our volunteer staff and training for the various tasks will take place as soon as we have been able to identify definite dates. If you would like to join our volunteers please contact one of the Management Committee (below). Potential suppliers are also being contacted and their terms and conditions assessed to give the best value.

We hope to make this news bulletin a regular feature so please look out for further details including our definite opening date in the local community journals, on our website (burleygateshop.co.uk), and on the various community notice boards. If you require further information please let us know.

Our thanks must go to Gill and Bernard at the current shop for their assistance and helpful advice and not least for delaying their retirement to give us a chance to overcome the “hiccups” which are occurring along the way. We will get there in the end!

Thank you, from the Burley Gate Community Shop Management Committee.
